Sketch of aggravated robbery suspect

Sketch of aggravated robbery suspect released Tuesday.

A computer-generated sketch and an updated description were released Tuesday of the suspect with a handgun who robbed two students and assaulted one of them Dec. 7 in Loftin Student Center.

The police are not releasing any more information about the incident that put three buildings on lockdown or evacuation last week while more than two dozen police officers searched for the armed suspect.

Investigators in the district department of public safety worked with the two witnesses on their descriptions of the suspect and sent an e-mail crime alert with the composite image to faculty, staff and students shortly before 2 p.m. Tuesday.

Joe Curiel, deputy chief of police and administration, told The Ranger that district police did not produce the sketch immediately after the incident because they didn't want to "interrupt the students' academic endeavors" during finals week.

The aggravated robbery took place in the men's restroom on the first floor of Loftin at about 12:05 p.m. near the cafeteria.

The suspect is described as a black male with a dark complexion about 5-feet-9 to 5-feet-10 in his late teens or early 20s. The suspect weighs about 160 to 200 pounds.

He has black hair with short dreadlocks and brown eyes.

According to the latest crime alert, he was last seen wearing a black baseball cap, black jacket, black T-shirt and blue jeans, large gold chain around his neck with a gold-colored headphones pendant.

He was armed with a small, black semi-automatic pistol that had wear on the slide exposing metal, according to campus police.

The sketch of the suspect is also posted on Alamo Colleges police department webpage, under campus crime alerts at www.alamo.edu/district/dps/main.htm.>

Although most students finished with spring semester classes Dec. 10, Curiel said campus police are still on campus working on the case.

He said police recreated the events that occurred on the day of the incident to see if they could come up with any new details.

On Thursday, President Robert Zeigler sent an e-mail to faculty, staff and students further explaining details of the incident.

The Ranger reported Dec. 7 that architecture sophomore Clint Baack told campus police the suspect took his wallet, cell phone and iPod.

The student who accompanied Baack told campus police his wallet was also stolen.

Baack was hit in the mouth with the handgun.

Zeigler wrote that the suspect told the students to stay in the restroom, which they did for a short period of time.

Afterward, they left Loftin and went toward San Pedro Branch Library across San Pedro Avenue from the college because they saw police. They walked to the parking lot south of the library and reported the incident to San Antonio Park Police, who then notified campus police.

The buildings evacuated and put on lockdown Tuesday were Moody Learning Center, Nail Technical Center and the academic instruction center because it was reported the suspect was in the area. Curiel said each building on campus was searched.

He said there will be an increase of police on campus next semester.

Anyone with information about the incident or who recognize the suspect should call the criminal investigation division of district police at 210-485-0099.

Frat house hatchet assailant on the loose - National Violent Crime

A man who brandished a hatchet at a fraternity home in the Georgia Tech area has assailed a Georgia Tech student over the weekend.

The incident occurred at around 4am Saturday outside the Sigma Alpha Epsilon home, located within the campus. In response, a crime alert notice about this was posted on the Tech police web page.

Just then, the man swayed his weapon at one of the students, but luckily he missed. Neither of the students was hurt.

The man was last seen fleeing passed a fire lane near Fowler Street. He has been described as a white male; who stands around 5 feet 8 inches in height; who is somewhere in his late teens or early 20s; and who was dressed in a dark-colored jacket, blue jeans, and even a red hat that resembled a Santa Claus hat.
