OXFORD, Ohio -- A silent protest is scheduled tonight at Miami University, after allegations of a gay hate crime are reported.

MINNEAPOLIS --  University of Minnesota police are searching for a suspect after a student was allegedly assaulted while returning to a campus apartment early Thursday morning.

Despite recent high-profile crimes on and near the University of Minnesota, officials say campus crime is down. However, 5 EYEWITNESS NEWS discovered the numbers don't tell the whole story.

SAN DIEGO — San Diego State University police are warning students that a registered sex offender has been spotted on the SDSU campus.

A 20-year-old Washington University student was robbed and sexually assaulted on city streets early Monday.

A recent crime alert text message issued by UVM Police Services may have students questioning their safety on campus.

According to the mass text, Police Services received a report of a sexual assault of a female student during the late evening hours on Tuesday, April 6 between Redstone and Athletic campuses.

On Wednesday, April 14 at approximately 11:00 p.m. a University of Minnesota student was the victim of an assault and robbery in the Dinkytown business district (see map below).

The victim stepped outside of the Library Bar at the corner of 4th St. SE and 13th Ave. to get some air and was approached by two male suspects. One of the suspects engaged the victim in conversation and asked for money to buy cigarettes while the second suspect stood nearby. When the victim took out his wallet, the first suspect punched the victim in the face and grabbed the wallet. The victim pursued the suspects as they fled westbound on 4th Street. The two suspects separated and the victim eventually saw the suspect who punched him get into a two-door silver Ford pickup truck. The victim was not injured and declined medical attention.

ATLANTA -- Police are investigating another crime near Georgia Tech's campus. It's the fourth robbery near the campus in one week.

A Georgia Tech student was robbed on campus early Tuesday as she walked to her car, Tech police said.
