Enhancing Security at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign

Crime Alerts - Mass Email Notifications - Illini Alert

The community’s safety is and will continue to be the highest priority for the University of Illinois Police Department. To help ensure the safety of those in the campus community, we have and will continue to use mass email to alert the public regarding serious, violent crimes which occur in the campus district.

The University of Illinois Police Department wants to provide accurate and thorough information so individuals can take appropriate personal protective actions based on the types of serious criminal activity reported. As we continue to respond to reports of violent crimes occurring in the campus district, we are investing in additional resources to prevent and/or increase our ability to solve these crimes.

To be more specific, we have recently obtained a $100,000 commitment from the Chancellor of the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign to purchase a state of the art camera system which will dramatically increase our ability to identify, locate and arrest offenders. These cameras will be placed in areas of campus that historically have higher crime rates and/or other areas of campus that require video security.
